Enable Guided Access Mode for Kids on iPhone in the US (iOS 18 Guide)

If you let your child use your iPhone but want to keep them inside one app — like YouTube Kids or a learning game — Guided Access is the perfect solution. It locks the device to a single app and disables unwanted touches or exits. Here’s how to set up Guided Access on iOS 18 for safer screen time.

1. Turn On Guided Access in Settings

Guided Access is part of the built-in Accessibility tools. To enable it:

  1. Go to Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access.
  2. Toggle Guided Access ON.
  3. Tap Passcode SettingsSet Guided Access Passcode.
  4. Create a 6-digit passcode (different from your device unlock code).
OnePlus Tip: Use a separate passcode so your child can’t exit the mode.

2. Start a Guided Access Session

Once it’s set up, you can start it from any app:

  1. Open the app you want your child to use (e.g., Safari Kids or a reading app).
  2. Triple-click the Side or Home button.
  3. Tap Start in the top right corner.

The iPhone is now locked to that app — the Home gesture, Control Center, and notifications are disabled.

3. Configure Touch and Motion Restrictions

You can control what’s active during Guided Access:

  1. When starting a session, tap Options.
  2. Toggle features like Touch, Motion, Keyboards, or Sleep/Wake Button ON or OFF.
  3. Tap DoneStart to apply settings.

For detailed display tweaks to make visuals easier for kids, check our Display Customization guide.

4. End a Guided Access Session

When your child is done using the app:

  1. Triple-click the Side or Home button again.
  2. Enter your Guided Access passcode.
  3. Tap End in the top-left corner.

5. Enable Face ID or Touch ID for Quicker Exit

To make ending sessions faster for parents:

  1. Go to Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access → Face ID / Touch ID.
  2. Toggle it ON.

Now you can end Guided Access simply by authenticating with your face or fingerprint.

6. Use Guided Access Shortcuts for Easy Control

You can add Guided Access to the Accessibility Shortcut for quicker activation:

  1. Go to Settings → Accessibility → Accessibility Shortcut.
  2. Select Guided Access.
  3. Now triple-click the Side button anytime to start or end a session.

OnePlus Tip 💡

Guided Access isn’t just for kids — it’s also useful for business demos or kiosk displays. If your iPhone runs hot during long Guided Access sessions, follow our iPhone Overheating Fix guide for safe temperature management.
