Fix iPhone Camera Not Focusing After iOS 18 Update
After updating to iOS 18, some iPhone users have reported that the camera no longer focuses properly—especially in close-up or low-light shots. If your photos look blurry or the focus keeps hunting, here’s how to fix it step by step.
1. Clean the Camera Lens
A smudge or fingerprint can confuse the iPhone’s autofocus system.
Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe the lens.
Avoid paper towels or rough fabric that might scratch the glass.
If you have a case covering the camera area, remove it and test again.
2. Restart Your iPhone
A simple restart often clears temporary software bugs after updates.
Press and hold the Volume Up + Side button → Slide to power off.
Wait 10 seconds, then power it back on.
Now open the Camera app and check if focus works normally.
3. Reset Camera Settings
Some iOS 18 camera changes can conflict with your saved settings.
Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset.
Choose Reset All Settings.
(This won’t delete your photos or data, just resets preferences.)
Reopen the Camera app and test focus again.
4. Turn Off Macro Control (for Pro Models)
If you have an iPhone 13 Pro or newer, macro mode might be activating too early.
Open Settings → Camera.
Toggle Macro Control Off.
Then try focusing on a nearby object to see if performance improves.
5. Force Close and Reopen Camera App
Swipe up from the bottom (or double-tap Home button).
Swipe up on the Camera app to close it completely.
Reopen and test focus again.
6. Check for New iOS Updates
Apple often releases minor patches to fix post-update bugs.
Go to Settings → General → Software Update.
If a new version (like iOS 18.0.1 or later) is available, install it.
7. Use Third-Party Camera Apps to Test Hardware
Try Halide or ProCam to see if the issue persists.
If the camera still won’t focus in other apps, it’s likely hardware-related.
Visit an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider for inspection.
OnePlus Tip
Avoid using magnetic or metallic cases—they can interfere with the focus sensor. After major iOS updates, always give your iPhone a quick restart to stabilize background processes before using the Camera app again.
