Hide Private Photos on iPhone Securely in Canada (iOS 18 Guide)

If you share your iPhone with family or friends, keeping private photos hidden is essential. iOS 18 includes built-in privacy tools that let you protect sensitive pictures with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. Here’s how Canadian users can securely hide photos on iPhone without using third-party apps.

1. Use the Built-in Hidden Album

Open the Photos app → select the photo or video you want to hide → tap the Share icon → choose Hide.

The selected items will move to the Hidden album, which is automatically locked by Face ID or Touch ID on iOS 18.

2. Lock the Hidden Album

Go to Settings → Photos → scroll down to Show Hidden Album and turn it OFF. This removes the Hidden album from view in the Photos app, adding an extra layer of security.

To make the album visible again, toggle Show Hidden Album back ON — Face ID or your passcode will be required to access it.

🔒 For deeper privacy control, check Security & Privacy for managing sensitive data and app permissions.

3. Hide Recently Deleted Items Too

Photos you delete move to the Recently Deleted album and stay there for 30 days. This folder is also locked by default in iOS 18.

To empty it manually: Open Photos → Albums → Utilities → Recently Deleted → tap Select → Delete All.

4. Use Notes for Extra Protection

If you want to hide certain photos separately, you can store them inside a locked note:

  1. Open the Notes app → create a new note.
  2. Tap the camera icon → choose Photo Library → select your private image.
  3. Tap the share icon → choose Lock Note and secure it with Face ID or a passcode.

This method keeps your photos outside the Photos app and adds another password layer.

5. Avoid Third-Party “Vault” Apps

Many third-party apps claim to hide photos, but they can pose security risks or store your images on external servers. Apple’s built-in tools are encrypted, local, and integrated with Face ID for the highest protection level.

OnePlus Tip

Review your privacy settings regularly under Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos to see which apps have access to your media. Keep your iPhone updated to the latest iOS version to ensure encryption and biometric protections remain active.
