Track iPhone Battery Health Using Built-in Tools on iOS 18

If your iPhone’s battery drains faster than usual, it’s time to check its health. iOS 18 includes improved built-in battery analytics that show how well your battery performs, when it was last calibrated, and whether it needs service.

Here’s how to track iPhone battery health using Apple’s native tools — no third-party apps required.

1. Open Battery Health in Settings

Start with Apple’s own diagnostics.

  1. Go to Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging.

  2. Review the Maximum Capacity percentage — this shows how much charge your battery can hold compared to when it was new.

  3. Check Peak Performance Capability to see if your iPhone limits performance to prevent shutdowns.

📍If Maximum Capacity is below 80%, Apple recommends a battery replacement.

2. View Battery Usage Graphs

To see how your daily activity affects battery life:

  1. Go to Settings → Battery.

  2. Tap Last 24 Hours or Last 10 Days.

  3. Review the graph to spot high-drain periods or power-hungry apps.

  4. Scroll down to view Battery Usage by App — apps with long background activity often drain the most.

Use this data to identify apps you can restrict or uninstall.

3. Enable Battery Percentage and Low Power Mode

These quick indicators help you track real-time battery performance.

  • Go to Settings → Control Center → Add Control → Low Power Mode.

  • Then open Settings → Battery and toggle Battery Percentage ON.

Now you’ll see exact battery numbers in the status bar and can activate Low Power Mode anytime from Control Center.

4. Check Battery Cycle Count (on iOS 18 and later)

iOS 18 introduces an easier way to view Battery Cycle Count — a measure of how many full charge cycles your battery has completed.

  1. Go to Settings → General → About → Battery.

  2. Look for Cycle Count, Manufacture Date, and First Use Date.

  3. A healthy iPhone battery typically lasts around 500 cycles before capacity drops noticeably.

If your count is near or above 500, plan for a replacement soon.

5. Use Charging Optimization for Long-Term Health

Apple’s optimized charging helps prevent chemical aging.

  1. Go to Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging.

  2. Turn on Optimized Battery Charging.

  3. Keep Clean Energy Charging enabled — it learns your daily routine and charges during low-carbon energy hours.

These features reduce stress on the battery, especially when charging overnight.

6. Run Built-in Diagnostics (Optional)

If your battery health or capacity isn’t updating, run a diagnostic test:

  1. Open Settings → General → About.

  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Diagnostics & Usage → Start Diagnostics.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions — Apple Support can access the results if needed.

This confirms whether the issue is software-related or hardware degradation.

OnePlus Tip

Check battery health once a month and avoid letting charge drop below 20% or exceed 90% regularly. For better long-term results, use certified MagSafe or USB-C chargers and keep iOS updated — each new version improves power efficiency and background-task management.
