Use Face ID to Lock Third-Party Apps on iPhone
Keeping your personal data private is easier than ever with iOS 18. You can now use Face ID to lock and protect third-party apps like WhatsApp, Notes, and banking apps directly from your iPhone settings. This guide walks you through how to set it up and ensure your privacy stays intact.
Step 1: Open iPhone Settings
Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and enter your device passcode when prompted. Make sure Face ID is already set up and functioning correctly for unlocking your iPhone.
Step 2: Enable Face ID for App Locking
Scroll down and find the list of apps that support Face ID authentication. Toggle the switch next to each app you want to lock. Once enabled, these apps will require Face ID every time you open them.
Step 3: Lock Apps Manually (If Required)
Some third-party apps like WhatsApp and Telegram include their own built-in Face ID lock options. Open the app, then go to Settings > Privacy > Screen Lock and enable Require Face ID.
Step 4: Test the Lock
Close the selected apps and reopen them. You should now see a Face ID prompt before accessing any content — confirming the lock is active.
Extra Tips for Privacy
- Use Screen Time > App Limits to add another layer of access control.
- Disable notifications for sensitive apps under Settings > Notifications.
- Regularly check your app permissions under Settings > Privacy & Security.

OnePlus Tip
If you often share your iPhone with family or coworkers, enable Guided Access from Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access. It restricts users to a single app and prevents them from leaving it without your Face ID.
