Enable Dark Mode Automatically on Samsung Galaxy
Want your Galaxy phone to switch to Dark Mode automatically based on the time of day? Samsung’s Dark Mode not only makes your display easier on the eyes at night but also helps conserve battery life. Here’s how to enable and schedule it easily on your Samsung Galaxy in the United States and Canada.
Step 1: Open Display Settings
Go to Settings > Display. You’ll see the Light and Dark appearance options at the top. Tap Dark to immediately switch your phone to dark mode.
Step 2: Set Dark Mode to Turn On Automatically
Under the Display menu, tap Dark Mode Settings. Enable Turn On as Scheduled. You can choose Sunset to Sunrise for automatic activation based on your location, or Custom Schedule to set specific start and end times.
Step 3: Allow Location Access for Accurate Scheduling
To use the Sunset to Sunrise option, make sure location access is enabled. Go to Settings > Location > App Permissions and allow location access for Settings and Weather. This ensures the dark mode follows your local sunset and sunrise times.
Step 4: Apply Dark Mode to Wallpapers and Themes
In Dark Mode Settings, enable Apply Dark Mode to Wallpaper to automatically dim your home and lock screen backgrounds. You can also explore compatible themes and icons in the Galaxy Themes app.
Step 5: Schedule with Bixby Routines (Optional)
For more control, open Settings > Advanced Features > Bixby Routines. Create a new routine: IF → Time or Sunset, then THEN → Turn on Dark Mode. This adds automation flexibility beyond the built-in scheduler.
Step 6: Reduce Eye Strain and Save Power
Dark Mode not only improves visual comfort but can also reduce power usage on AMOLED screens. Learn more about display optimization in Display Customization and efficient power management at Battery & Power Management.

OnePlus Tip
Combine Dark Mode with “Eye Comfort Shield” under Settings > Display for the best nighttime viewing experience — it automatically filters blue light and adjusts tone for a warmer display at night.
