Optimize Battery Charging on iOS 18 Automatically
iPhones on iOS 18 come with an intelligent charging feature that helps extend your battery’s lifespan by learning your daily habits. The Optimize Battery Charging option reduces the time your device stays fully charged, preventing long-term battery wear — ideal for users who plug in their phone overnight.
Step 1: Open Battery Settings
Go to Settings > Battery. Here, you can view battery usage, health, and other power options. This section also shows insights about your charging patterns and the apps that consume the most power.
Step 2: Enable Optimized Battery Charging
Select Battery Health & Charging and toggle ON Optimized Battery Charging. Once enabled, iOS will delay charging beyond 80% until just before you typically unplug the device.
Step 3: Allow Location Access
To improve charging predictions, ensure that Location Services and System Customization are active. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and toggle ON both options.
Step 4: Monitor Charging Behavior
After a few days, your iPhone will begin learning your routine. You’ll notice a message like “Scheduled to finish charging by 7:00 AM” on the Lock Screen when connected overnight. This means the feature is working correctly.
Step 5: Disable When Traveling
If your daily schedule changes — for example, while traveling — disable the feature temporarily. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and turn off Optimized Battery Charging. You can re-enable it once you’re back to your normal routine.

OnePlus Tip
If you charge overnight, use a certified 20W USB-C adapter and avoid cheap third-party chargers that overheat or deliver inconsistent voltage. Combine Optimized Charging with Low Power Mode during travel for maximum efficiency and battery health on your iPhone.
