Set Up Apple Pay Without Bank Card on iPhone in the US

Want to use Apple Pay but don’t have a traditional bank card? With iOS 18, Apple now allows users in the United States to set up Apple Pay using virtual cards, Apple Cash, or prepaid services — no physical debit or credit card required. Here’s how you can start using Apple Pay without a bank account link.

Step 1: Open Wallet App

Go to your iPhone’s Wallet app. Tap the + icon in the top-right corner to add a new payment method. From here, you’ll see multiple options, including credit/debit cards and Apple Cash setup.

Step 2: Select Apple Cash or Virtual Card

Choose Apple Cash if you want to send, receive, or spend money without a traditional bank card. Alternatively, you can use a virtual card issued by digital payment services like PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App, which now support Apple Pay integration in the U.S.

Step 3: Verify Your Identity

For Apple Cash setup, you’ll need to verify your identity by entering basic information like your name, address, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number. This helps prevent fraud and enables full access to Apple Pay features.

Step 4: Add Funds to Apple Cash

You can add money to Apple Cash directly from another digital wallet, gift card, or prepaid card. Tap Add Money in the Wallet app and choose your source. Funds will appear instantly in your Apple Cash balance and can be used anywhere Apple Pay is accepted.

Step 5: Use Apple Pay for Purchases

Once your Apple Cash or virtual card is ready, double-click the Side Button on your iPhone and authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID to pay. Apple Pay works across most U.S. retailers, online stores, and transit systems.

Step 6: Manage Security and Privacy

To keep your data safe, visit Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Pay & Wallet. Ensure Transaction History and Face ID are enabled for secure payments. Learn more about secure payment options at Security & Privacy.

OnePlus Tip

If you frequently use Apple Pay without a card, consider linking your Apple ID balance for app purchases or subscriptions. It automatically integrates with Apple Pay, giving you a secure, card-free payment experience across all Apple services.
