Hide Safari History Automatically on iPhone in North America
Worried about your browsing privacy? With iOS 18, you can now hide Safari history automatically on your iPhone in North America using built-in privacy settings and automation tools. Whether you share your device or want more online privacy, these steps will help you browse securely without leaving traces.
Step 1: Enable Private Browsing Mode
Open Safari and tap the Tabs icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap the dropdown menu in the center and select Private. Private Browsing prevents Safari from saving your browsing history, cookies, or autofill data.
Step 2: Automatically Open Safari in Private Mode
Go to Settings > Safari and select Private Browsing under the “Tabs” section. Turn on Always Start in Private Mode to ensure Safari automatically launches privately every time you open it.
Step 3: Use Siri Shortcuts to Clear History
Open the Shortcuts app and create a new shortcut. Add the action Clear Safari History or use an automation that runs daily to clear browsing data. To automate it, go to Automation > Create Personal Automation > Time of Day and set your preferred schedule.
Step 4: Disable iCloud Safari Sync (Optional)
If you don’t want your browsing data synced across devices, go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Safari and toggle it off. This ensures your iPhone’s Safari history remains local and can’t be accessed from your Mac or iPad.
Step 5: Clear Existing Safari History
Navigate to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Confirm to remove all current history and cached files. Doing this periodically keeps your storage clean and enhances privacy.
Step 6: Strengthen Privacy Settings
In Settings > Safari, enable options like Prevent Cross-Site Tracking and Hide IP Address from Trackers. For enhanced security tips, visit Security & Privacy.

OnePlus Tip
Combine Private Browsing with Face ID lock for Safari tabs. In iOS 18, go to Settings > Safari > Require Face ID to Unlock Private Browsing. This ensures no one else can access your private tabs — even if your phone is unlocked.
